Giggles Galore at Playgroup
Written by Angelika
Kempsey West Public School has been hosting a playgroup every Friday morning from 9:30am – 11:30am. This resource is open to all pre-school age learners and their parents to help prepare them for big school. A range of activities are available each week to support children in developing their social skills and their excitement for school.
Mrs Hodge, Deputy Principal stated, “The playgroup is awesome, we do inside play, outside play and it is a chance for children to socialise and for parents to meet each other and chat.”
The playgroup is held in the hall and the infant’s playground. Interested parents are welcome to come along and join in the fun. Let the friendly office staff know you are here for playgroup and they will walk you to the hall.

Kempsey West Kids Make a Point at Debating Workshop
Written by Scarlett
On Thursday 14th of May, eight students from Kempsey West Public School got to go to a debating workshop at Macksville Primary School. The eight students who received this privilege were Landyn, Emily, Stella, Lily, Jaynarli, Sophia, Scarlett and Alaska, along with Mrs. Rudder and Tyler. Students from many different schools were invited to learn and practice debating; we learned about strategies, how to look and sound during a debate, and how to make a rebuttal.
We took notes on lots of the tips that Tony was sharing with us and it helped us understand how to debate better. After we had learned what we could, we had the chance to have some friendly competitions for practice debates. Our school debate was about why we should ban uniforms, and we were split into two teams, affirmative and negative. We won a debate about what our school would do if we ruled the planet but lost a debate on why our celebrity should get the last parachute on a crashing plane, but the most important thing was that we learned something from each debate.
On our way back, we got some ice cream as a refreshing reward after the workshop. We all had a lot of fun at the debate workshop, and we are looking forward to using our new skills for future debates. We hope to see you there. As a group we would like to say a big thank you to Mrs. Rudder and Tyler.

Kempsey West Kids Living the Dream of Dance
Written by Ebony and Madeline
On Thursday 30th April 2026, ten Kempsey West Public School students went to Richardson's Beach at Crescent Head for a documentary about Robert Campell Jr's artworks and the Jindii & Jupun Living the Dreaming concert in 1995. KWPS dance students were invited to dance on the film set of the documentary because KWPS students performed at the concert at Riverside Park in 1995.
Auntie Jay commented, "Our students had the best time, they loved being on camera doing cultural dance. This will be a very memorable day.” The students who went were Glemakye, Nikolas, Raymond, Xavier, Brenda, Zonique, Tyra, Danielle, Luama and Amarni.
Robert Campbell Jnr was primarily a self-taught painter who emerged during the 1980s as an extremely important Indigenous artist. Campbell’s striking, dynamic paintings are based on the patterning, colours and stylistic conventions of traditional Ngaku designs.
